Outline of Play
“Absurd Person Singular” follows the marital tensions and changing fortunes of three couples over three successive Christmas Eves, in three kitchens.
It shows a lowly shopkeeper and his cowed, subservient wife gradually growing in power and confidence until by the end they have the middle-class characters, who once patronised them, literally dancing to their tune. All the usual Christmas disasters occur, and together with the changing relationships within the three marriages and the unravelling of three friendships, provide a frantic and frenzied ending to the final Christmas party.
