Outline of Play
Hester Collyer's lover, Freddie, calls her a clergyman's daughter who married the first man who asked her and fell in love with the first man who gave her the eye.
The husband is a rich talented lawyer; the lover is neither Hester's moral or intellectual equal, but Hester loves him with an intensity that few, especially not Freddie, are capable of matching. They are death to each other.
She is saved by the intervention of a disbarred doctor who, like herself, has had to face life without hope.
